Felt is a project conducted by Enactus QMUL in conjunction with members from University of the Arts London (UAL). It aims to tackle the feelings of isolation, loneliness and social marginalisation felt by many people who are visually impaired, and to help them create a social identity for themselves, as this is often closely associated with one’s sight.
Felt aims to solve these issues by working with the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), to provide weekly sessions where blind people are taught to weave, learning to work with fabric to create various products. In time, it is possible that this could become a business venture, with some of the people this project will work with choosing to start businesses in this area. Felt also aims to tackle the issue of waste in the fashion industry; many of the materials used in the project would otherwise be discarded and wasted.
